Explore retro game development with Robert Doman
With a love for art and maths, I graduated from University with a degree in Game Development. I quickly found GB Studio and started using my skills for fun, exploring this new engine.
I found there to be a lack of help online for new developers like me, and I wanted to share some cool things I had created, so I started making YouTube videos.
A few years later, I am now physically releasing the biggest game I have made, Take It Racing 2! Everything I have achieved so far has been with the help of this vibrant community, so I want to thank you for being here.
Imagine a world where games old games aren't thrown away, and new games last longer than the servers they are hosted on. For me, making brand new games for retro consoles is exactly what this world needs. Revive your favourite device released in 1989 and be part of the retro renaissance!
I want to be a place for new developers to learn and feel supported. But also a place where retro gamers can scratch their nostalgia itch while supporting independent creators. If that sounds good to you, please consider supporting or joining the GB Studio community!
Always remember to play the demo before buying a game. Homebrew GB Studio games can be especially niche. You can play them browser or download the rom files at itch.io to play on real hardware.
Are you more inspired by the idea of making your own retro games? I have a YouTube channel dedicated to GB Studio, a drag-and-drop game engine perfect for new developers.
